Father Knows Best
As I sit down to write this column, it happens to be Father’s Day weekend. I begin to reflect on memories of my father, my grandfathers and even in my younger days as a father to three young children. Where has the time gone? As a youngster who loved his daddy, to the present day of being a grandfather of eight grandchildren, two of which are now young adults, I can now reflect on this thing called fathering.
I am very blessed to have had my natural father as well as those in the “Faith” who mentored, loved and gave me true examples to follow in ministry. However, I understand that not everyone has had positive experiences in the fathering realm, whether you had a “not so good” father, or you had difficulty in raising children as a father, whatever your experience has been in fathering, I want to encourage you with this word today.
GOD is the BEST Father anyone could have if they open themselves up to Him and let Him have His perfect way in their lives. God is the creator of fathering and mothering. All the confusion regarding gender these days is a “smokescreen” from the one who hates God, because he was driven from the presence of God and thrown down to earth to torment those who follow God and who call God their father. By the way, that dude is referred to as the “father of lies” because He does everything, he can to distort the truth of God. This enemy of God will do anything to undermine our understanding of the term fathering. He will use and abuse children through fathers in vicious cycles repeating this curse over years and generations of families, until someone decides that the curse must be stopped.
First of all, if you have received Jesus Christ as your Lord, you have been grafted into the family of God and God has welcomed you into the family. The best story in the Bible about who God is and what kind of Father HE is can be found in Luke’s gospel Chapter 15, verses 11-32. The summation of that wonderful story about God is found in the last two verses, “Then the father said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and everything that is mine is yours. But it was right to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead but has come back to life! He was lost but is found.’”
God rejoices and throws a celebration when His sons or daughters return to HIM. That whole story goes into detail about the love God that HE has for HIS children and how HE restores them and what they lost back to them.
There is someone right now reading this column and the Spirit of God is speaking to you that you have no dignity left; that you have thrown your life away. Be encouraged sir or madam, that God says everything you lost can be redeemed as you cry out to God in your circumstances right now. Ask God what He wants you to do, and He will show you!!
Before many of you were born, there was a television show called “Father Knows Best” This television show ran from 1954 -1960. It was a sitcom show that had humor, but also taught life lessons through a man who was married and had three children. One of the children was a son named Bud (Imagine that!)
I am not suggesting our lives be patterned after any kind of television show, but what I want to emphasize about that show was that the family unit, (father, mother and children) were normal and not considered an anomaly like it is today. Our heavenly Father does know what is best for us and our lives. If we trust Him, we will see Him work out every detail to work out for our good.
By the time you receive this publication, Father’s Day will have come and gone, but you can honor your heavenly Father every day and while you’re at it, go ahead and show honor to you earthly dad as well. If he has transitioned to heaven, then show honor to those who are fathering you in the faith like Paul who was like a father to Timothy and Titus in the New Testament. If you’re convinced that fathering is not a big deal, please read Malachi 4 and get back to me!
In conclusion I would also like to give thanks show honor to our ministry father Ras Robinson! I am certain that Dad Ras and Mom Bev have received the words from the Lord Himself welcoming them into their reward of being good and faithful servants of the KINGDOM OF GOD!
Until next time! – BLESSINGS and SHALOM!
