The Lord has been speaking to me over and over again saying, “BE STILL and know that I am God.” He has been teaching me to be still and watch what He does.
Many times, when we want something from God or want to see things happening, we want to try to make them happen; when God is saying, “Be still and know I am God.”
Psalms 46:10 (NKJV) “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
So many times, we want things to happen more quickly than we are seeing them, so we try to “help” God. When the truth is many times, we need to move out of His way. Now I am not saying we do not have a part to play. I am saying we need to sometimes be still and let God do what God does. The sons of God are led by the Spirit of God. We will know what and when we are to do our part.
Romans 8:14 (NKJV) “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.”
Definition of Be: to take place; to occupy a place or position (dictionary.com).
Definition of Still: to rest, free from turbulence or commotion; to calm (dictionary.com).
To be still means to be at rest. If we are at rest, we are in faith. Several years ago, God had me study those two words, be still. The main takeaway I received from that study was that to be still literally means “Desist, I don’t need your help.” In my research of those two words, I learned that when God tells me to be still He is saying, “In this situation I do not need your help. Let Me do what I do.” He has used that many times to speak to me and teach me that in some situations He doesn’t need my help and I need to move out of His way.
Know that I Am God
To know He is God is to recognize, understand and acknowledge His ultimate authority and divine nature. It is to know Him intimately. My heart has always been to know the very heart of God. If I know His heart I will know when to be still. I will truly know My Daddy God. Many times, God wants to do things in and through us, and the only help He needs from us is to trust Him and let Him do it. We are just to be His vessel.
There have been times when He has told me what He wants me to do and instead of stepping right out and doing it I have tried to rationalize it and figure out the best way to do what He is telling me. When truly He is wanting me to rest in Him and be still and let Him do whatever He wants to do. My rationalizing and trying to figure out how to do things can get in His way many times. God truly wants to show us who He is and how much He loves us. He wants to move on our behalf. He wants to do what only He can do in our lives. Many times, we can’t explain or rationalize what He does. We have had God do miraculous things in our finances that absolutely do not make sense nor do they add up with pen, paper or calculator - but God. We had to trust Him in situations with our finances, that in the natural, the outcome didn’t make sense or add up. But when we were still and knew our God and trusted Him, WOW did He do what only He could do.
Let me give you an example: Several years ago we felt a pull from God to purchase some land to later build a house on it. We didn’t hear ‘thus saith the Lord’, it was a pull from the Lord to do it. We were both, the word I will use is, nervous. We were about to spend almost everything we had to buy this land and pay it in full. We truly believed God was tugging on us to do it. So, we did. It took almost all the finances we had to buy it and pay for it in full. We own a business, and we still would need finances to run that business, yet here we are spending almost everything we had. We trusted God in this, and we watched Him give back to us everything we had spent. In nine months we had it all back. We trusted God, and “tried” to rest in Him. We watched Him supernaturally give it all back to us. Only our Daddy God could do what He did for us. You are no different.
When He speaks or moves on you to do something, do it. He will come through. And through the process, when He says, “Be still and know that I am God”, do just that. Be still and know He will do it and rest in Him. He proves Himself over and over again.
Fear Not
When we can be still and know He is God, we will not fear. When we are in rest it will take stress and worry from us. Keeping our focus on God is so important for our lives. When I keep my focus on God, circumstances become smaller. He is with us. Why should we be afraid? God tells us over and over in His Word to fear not, don’t be afraid. If I am being still and knowing He is God, how can I be afraid? “Be still and know I am God.”
Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV) “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Hebrews 12:2a (NLT) “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.”
Be still and fear not. Rest and fear not. Know He is God and fear not. I hear the Lord saying as I write this, “Why would you fear when I am with you? Why would you worry when I am faithful? Why would you want to do it your way when My way is perfect? I am your good, good Father who wants the best for you. I am the One who can be trusted. When I say it, I will do it. I have so much I want to do through you and for you. Don’t settle for only what you can do. Lean on and rely on Me. Be still and know I am God. If I said it, you can take it to the bank, I will do it. Being still doesn’t mean you aren’t doing anything. Being still, when I say be still, means you are doing the BEST thing you could be doing at that time. I AM and I WILL!!!”
Proverbs 3:5-7 (CSB) “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight. Don’t be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil.”
Deuteronomy 31:8 (NKJV) “And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”
I Am with You
He is with us always. He will never leave us or forsake us. He truly is our Daddy and He will NEVER disappoint you. I had to personally learn what it means that He is my Father. I have never had a Daddy like my Daddy God. He truly is always with me. Everywhere I go He is with me. Even when I think I am not ‘feeling Him’, He’s there. He truly has never failed me and He won’t fail you. When He says He is with you, you can count on it. It is learning who He is, knowing who He is so you recognize Him.
Psalms 139:7-10 (NKJV) “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your Presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall lead me.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 (NKJV) “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear or be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
I lost both of my parents at the age of nine. That being said, I didn’t really have the love of a father or grow up with a relationship of a father. So when I gave my life to Christ I didn’t grasp what it even meant to have Him as a Father or understand His love. It was a real struggle for me to receive love or even understand it. When I married, I tried to get things from my husband he couldn’t give me, only God could. And as I grew in my relationship with the Lord, things in that area had not really changed. But, when I received the full revelation of the love of my Daddy God, how He loves me and what that really is like, it rocked my world. I have never been the same. I am so fulfilled and so secure. I no longer go to my husband for things he couldn’t give me, I go to Daddy God. I learned that He loves me no matter what I do or don’t do. He and His love are always with me. I have learned that you and I didn’t do anything to earn His love. It is free; so therefore, I can’t do anything to lose it. He will always love me, and He will always be with me. My earthly father has not always been with me, but, oh, my Heavenly Father is and will be. Trust Him when He says He is always with you!
Be Still
Exodus 14:14 (NIV) “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
I Samuel 12:16 (NIV) “Now then, stand still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes!”
Psalms 37:7b (NIV) “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;”
There is peace in the stillness. There is victory in the stillness. There is rest in the stillness. Sometimes, we need to just be quiet in His presence and listen. Many times, we want to get alone with God and download to Him and on Him. How about we just get alone with God, listen and sit in His presence. Why not get in a quiet place with God and soak Him in? Let’s just be still and experience Him! If I am always talking, how can He talk? Conversation is not just about what we have to say, but also what the other person has to say. Sometimes we just need to be the listening ear in our conversation with God. SHHHHHH…listen and soak Him in. Oh, just bask in His presence. Be still and let Him permeate you with His presence. It will be life changing when you learn to be still and know He is God. You will have so much peace when you step out of the way and allow God to do what He wants. Just be His vessel. Surrender to Him and be still. You will be a different person.
Being still is also about ceasing from striving and fighting. It relinquishes any need to control. It is a halt from conflict and worry. Being still is going to Daddy God, because He is our source of power and strength. Psalms 46:10 encourages us to let go of anxieties and fears, allowing God to handle the things beyond human control. It reminds us of His omnipresence and His ability to bring peace to us. It is a reminder that we can fully trust God in everything. It is also a reminder to KNOW Him to the fullest. I love Psalms 46:10 and the revelation God has given me of being still. It has taught me that when God is in it, we cannot fail if we trust Him and be still. When we KNOW our God how can we be afraid, how can we worry, how can we doubt? My husband and I have seen God over and over again do miraculous things in our lives, in us, for us and through us. He will NOT fail you. Release and lay at His feet all fear, worry and anxiety. Be still and know your God.
As I am coming to an end on this article, I hear the Spirit of God say, “Rest in Me. I have got this. When you give it all to Me and trust Me, you will not be disappointed. I have been waiting for you to be still and know that I am God!! It is time you know Me as your Daddy!!! It is time you stop striving and working to get your plan done and be still and watch My plan for you unfold. You have a part to do, and I will let you know when and what to do. It isn’t complicated or difficult. It is easy. My yoke is easy, and My burden is light. When you are still and stop striving, I will shift you. When you rest, I will raise you up. Don’t misunderstand what I am saying to you. You are to speak to the mountain, and it will move. There are things I have told you to do. When you are still and know Me these things are effortless, without striving. Being still is not without action. Being still requires action. It is action without fear, striving, control, worry or fighting. It is resting in Me and knowing Me and watching Me move on your behalf. I have called you to work with Me not for Me. I have placed you in victory. Being still is being in that place of victory and doing things from victory. I have much to show you and much to say to you. As you are still, I will release strategic plans and downloads from Heaven to you. It is time for you. Let’s move forward together.”
So many times, we try to help God, but our helping Him is not from the right place nor has the right motivation. Being still puts us in the right place so that when we are working with God, we are doing it from the right place, with His perspective. He wants us to be still and know that he is God, to know that He is I AM. He wants us to know Him intimately. When we know Him intimately, we will know His heart and can move and work with Him with His perspective. It is time for you and me to be still and know He is God, to fear not, to know He is always with us and to see ourselves already in victory. After all, fear is putting more faith in the devil than God. Step out of fear into victory. Get ready for the strategies from Heaven, they are coming your way.
